BIO
The five members of St Ranger attended high school together in Phoenix, Arizona and, after playing in bands that never met with much success, decided to join forces in early 2010. The line-up includes bassist/vocalist Jake Ashton, vocalist Bruce Kimura, guitarist/vocalist Andy Phipps, drummer Jakeob Ewell, and guitarist Jeff Taylor. The group delivers three-part vocal harmonies that echo over pop creations with complex structures, crafting songs that blend creative influences from artists like The Beach Boys, Grizzly Bear, and Animal Collective.
Since their inception, St Ranger has already played a range of shows throughout the Southwest. They’ve made two brief tours to California followed by a West Coast tour, and have played all over Arizona, sharing the stage with acts like White Denim, Mimicking Birds, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Starfucker and Pomegranates.
The band’s debut release, Life Coach, is available for free download online and was released on vinyl in February 2012 via The Color Group. St Ranger will be featured on Far Brighter Day, a vinyl compilation of Arizona artists due out in August. They will also be touring the US in July / August and releasing a 7” this summer.

PRESS
“If you like harmonies, surf rock or sunny tunes in general, take a look see.”
-Sounds Better With Reverb on Life Coach opener “It’s ‘Appening” on 02.26.12
“…it’s not long until they launch into more vocal play, ceaselessly beautiful harmonies and an ending that reveals that they are more than a little familiar with everything in the Wilson brothers catalog.”
-Sounds Around Town on Life Coach on 02.20.12
“I wasn’t being hyperbolic when I called St Ranger the most promising young band in Phoenix in my list of personal favorite records from last year. The indie pop band’s newest five-track LP, Life Coach, proves my point, brimming with harmonious group vocals, jangly guitar interplay, and chill atmospherics.”
-Chase Kamp from Phoenix New Times in interview with Jeff Taylor / preview of Life Coach release on 02.15.12
“Following the great songwriting of their singles, the tracks on Life Coach are not only aesthetically pleasing, but the craftsmanship is truly admirable… They maintain that math rock leaning that they touted before, but they also bring ramp up the vocal work with harmonies any Brian Wilson lover can admire. As as if that wasn’t enough to grasp onto, the band throws hook after catchy hook at you until your arms are so full of great music that you can scarcely carry any more.”
--Cactus-Mouth on Life Coach on 01.30.12
“The Christian Filardo-directed clip for Ohnowoe works extremely well, so all-in-all, if you’ve determined this is a week where feeling bad will feel so good, this tune and video are for you.”
-My Old Kentucky Blog on the video for Ohnowoe on 05.18.11
“The surprise of the night for me was St Ranger. Don’t quote me on this but I heard it was only their second show ever. On one hand I am not surprised because they are so very young but on the other I was amazed because they are so fucking good. It’s not often that a band that relies heavily on 2-3-4-5 part harmonies sound so good let alone pull it of like seasoned professionals but they did. You can download their first two recorded songs on their Band Camp page [HERE] and you should ASAP.”
